What a tarot reading can actually do
A tarot card does not tell you what will happen. What it does is hand you a picture and a question, and those two things together usually pull something into the open that you already half knew. That is why a reading is useful on an ordinary Tuesday and not only in a crisis.
The deck has 78 cards. Twenty-two of them are the Major Arcana, the big chapters: the Fool setting out, the Lovers choosing, the Star catching a breath after the Tower. The other 56 are the Minor Arcana, the everyday ones — work, money, feelings, the small negotiations of a week.
How to get something out of it
Take thirty seconds before you pull. Ask something you could act on — what am I not seeing here? works better than does he love me? — and then let your eye pick the card instead of your head.
Read the whole meaning, then keep the one sentence that snagged on something. In practice that sentence is the reading. The rest is scaffolding.
If a card lands badly, sit with it before you reject it. Death is almost never about dying, and the Tower usually looks like a relief six months later.
